Storytelling (Photography)

life is good. i’m just enjoying my love for basketball
a major setback occurs that changes my daily life
wishing I could just put my jersey on and get back on the court
learning to cope with the pain; that feeling when you want to do something … anything, but you can’t );
sometimes doing nothing is doing something as well, peace can be enjoyable as well

I chose this story because it is a major period of my life where I felt lost and had no idea where to go. I strained my ACL, which is a major tendon in the knee. Injuring your acl is one of the scariest, injuries that you ca get, as ends careers and often changes an athletes whole life. Basketball had always been my passion and this only made me scared that I would never be able to play again.

I believe I did well displaying the events in my story. I think I could’ve done a better job on visualizing the mental state of what I was going through in the story.

Individually, I thing the best image in my story is the first one. It’s a picture of me in my jersey doing the one thing I love the most, dribbling a basketball. Putting the jersey on for that picture brought back a lot of memories and felt nostalgic. It’s personally my favorite because it was the most happy I felt during the photo shoot for my story.

I think the fifth image is the best picture when it comes to telling the story. The image is a picture of me recovering with my leg elevated with my hand throwing a peace symbol. The image really shows my mental growth and how I was coming to peace with the situation I was placed in.

One thing I would do differently next time is include an audio saying ll the things that were going through my head at the time. That wold really give the reader extra insight on what I was really feeling during each period of my journey.

I believe I could tell a whole lot of photo stories. Living 19 years already, I feel like there’s a whole lot of experiences I could visualize and make stories out of. I’d just need a whole lot of storage for my camera lol.
